When sandstone was discovered near the old Irishtown campsite (near Donnybrook) in the eary 1890’s the Government promptly reserved the best stone for itself. The State went on to build a series of prominent civic buildings including the Central Post Office, Parliament House and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Perth from the quarries fine sandstone. This quarry was known as the “Government Quarry” and is the basis of our quarry today. These beautiful historic buildings highlight the stones distinctive character, high quality, durability and working properties which made sandstone from this quarry greatly sought after in Western Australia and nurtured the commercial industry. Many millions of tonnes have been identified throughout the quarry environs.
